Special Issue on “Green Technologies for Sustainable Development – 2.0”

Introduction:

Green, or clean technologies mainly focus on the development and extension of industrial processes, practices and applications to improve or replace existing technologies to reduce their adverse impact on the environment. From the viewpoint of the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, the three main aspects of green technologies are:

• Source correction methods: include changesin raw materials, modification/replacement of chemical-process equipment, recycle and reuse of solvents, as well as ways to reduce hazardous-solid waste, air emissions and wastewater generation.
• Greener/cleaner routes of the product synthesis:  includeschanges in the processing steps of new or existing chemical substance through novel and greener feedstock, reagents and catalysts with atom-economy concept.  This category also includes improving the process parameters resulting in replacement of hazardous solvents, solvent-less reaction and novel synthesis steps to prevents
• Energy efficient process: includes energy efficiency in terms of the reactions conducted in ambient conditions,eliminating energy-intensive operations, using fuels that reduce greenhouse emissions and utilization of renewable energy sources in the plant.

The ultimate aim in the field is to achieve sustainable development by adopting green technologies.  

This special issue will provide different perspectives on green technologies adopted by industries and/or developed by academia through advanced research in catalysis, green chemistry, renewable energy and environmental engineering. It will present original, high-quality research articles, together with review articles/short communication/letters focused on green technologies for sustainable development.
