Connections are integral to our lives and to our ecosystems. River networks, acting as natural focal points, foster connections within physical, social, and biological systems. Climate change and environmental issues are highlighting unexpected implications for river networks and associated human and ecological systems. In times of rapid environmental and social change, systems and communities with strong connections have been suggested to show the greatest resilience.
Engaging with colleagues across regions, countries, diverse backgrounds, and disciplines opens up opportunities to exchange novel findings and perspectives across generations of students, teachers, researchers, and managers. SFS facilitates opportunities for a diverse community of freshwater scientists to address pressing issues through resilient science.
