Urban Aquatic Ecosystems
Published 28 February, 2024
Introduction:
Aquatic ecosystems in urban environments, including natural streams, wetlands, lakes and constructed aquatic systems, provide ecosystem services to humans in cities. At the same time however, they are highly affected by human activities. Understanding how these vital ecosystems function amid human development activities is crucial to managing them sustainably.
In this special issue, we seek articles that shed light on both the ecology of urban aquatic ecosystems and the minimal environmental conditions that allow them to persist and provide ecosystem services. We are especially interested in receiving manuscripts that use multidisciplinary approaches and that span all continents, as well as from temperate and tropical regions.
