Congratulations to Professor Jiuhui Qu, recipient of the 2024 IWA Honorary Member Award!

The International Water Association (IWA) World Water Congress and Exhibition (WWCE2024) opened on August 10, 2024 in Toronto, Canada. Professor Jiuhui Qu , Editor-in-Chief of Water & Ecology, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of the Water Environment and Water Ecology Branch of the China Society of Urban Science. Prof Qu is also a researcher at the Center for Ecology and Environment of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and professor at Tsinghua University, was awarded the Honorary Membership of the IWA. This marks the first time
that a Chinese scholar has received this prestigious award.
Prof Qu has been deeply involved in research on water quality and water ecological safety and security technology. He has made systematic and innovative contributions spanning from basic theoretical research to practical engineering applications. His work has advanced the safety and security of urban and rural drinking water, and he has played a crucial role in the fight against water pollution.
Prof Qu has been recognised with numerous prestigious awards, including the First Prize of the National Science and Technology Advancement Award, four Second Prizes in the National Science and Technology Advancement and Technological Invention categories, the Award for Outstanding Scientific and Technological Achievement from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Award for Science and Technology Advancement, the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award, and the International Water Association Global Innovation Program Award.
The IWA Honorary Membership is one of the highest honours conferred by IWA on its members to recognise individuals who have made significant contributions to the water industry. The accolade is awarded biennially at the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition. Prof Qu’s award not only acknowledges his personal scientific achievements but also reflects the growing influence of China's water science community within the global water sector. It is anticipated that Professor Qu will continue to lead advancements in water science and make further contributions to the sustainable utilisation of global water resources in the future.
