Purpose

The event aims to evaluate how the insurance industry has responded to climate risks and explore effective strategies for climate risk management from international and multidisciplinary perspectives.

Background

According to many climatologists and environmental engineers, the probability and scale of extreme weather events such as heavy rainfall, heatwaves, and typhoons are expected to increase due to mid- to long-term climate change. In a changing environment with increasing extreme weather events, it is necessary for the insurance industry to review its ability to respond to climate risks and reconsider its business portfolio to enhance resilience across society and contribute to sustainable economic growth.

Summary

  • Part 1: We discuss the current response of the insurance industry to climate risks from the perspective of industry and financial authorities.
  • Part 2: We invite prominent international and domestic researchers to explore where research on climate risks presently stands and how the insurance industry and academia can work together to develop climate risk management from multidisciplinary perspectives.
