David L. Eckles is in the Insurance, Legal Studies, and Real Estate Department and is the P. George Benson Professor at the University of Georgia. At the University of Georgia, Dr. Eckles currently teaches in the undergraduate, MBA, and Ph.D. programs. He is also the coordinator for the risk management and insurance internship program as well as the Graduate Coordinator for the risk management and insurance Ph.D. program.
Dr. Eckles received an undergraduate degree in risk management and insurance and finance from the University of Georgia. He received an M.A. and Ph.D. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania where he was an S.S. Huebner Fellow. While at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Eckles was also a Sloan Fellow at the Wharton Financial Institution Center.
His research interests include insurance company efficiency, insurer reserving practices, insurer regulation issues, and enterprise risk management. He has published articles in the top academic journals for risk and insurance, including the Journal of Risk and Insurance, the Geneva Risk and Insurance Review, North American Actuarial Journal, Journal of Risk and Uncertainty, The Accounting Review, among others. He has served in leadership positions of other academic organizations including President of the Risk Theory Society (RTS), President of the Western Risk and Insurance Association, President of the Southern Risk and Insurance Association, and as a member of the Board of Governors for Asia Pacific Risk and Insurance Association. He has also served on the scientific committee for the European Group of Risk and Insurance Economists. He is currently the Vice President of the American Risk and Insurance Association.
