Dr Zhe Li, Clinical Associate Professor,Surgery, Concord Clinical School. Dr Zhe Li is the chief medical scientist of Skin Culture Laboratory of NSW Severe Burn Injury Service based at Concord Hospital. He has the specialist knowledge and experience in the cultivation of skin stem cells and engineered autoglous skin grafts, and their clinical application for severe burn wound healing. Since 2003, he has led the established laboratory services to provide cultured living skin grafts for treating severe burns in all burns units under NSW State-wide Severe Burns Service.
Dr Zhe Li completed his PhD degree and post-doctoral research career in University of Sydney, and worked as a senior medical scientist in institutions including University of Sydney, the Children’s Hospital at Westmead and St George Hospital.
Before being appointed to current position, Dr Li held senior research positions in Children’s Hospital at Westmead and St George Hospital. In addition to his medical training, he has had extensive training and experience of laboratory-based research in areas including developmental biology, cell biology, molecular biology, medical microbiology, infection and immunity, and various studies in animal models, etc.
His current research focuses on skin stem cells, cell and tissue therapy for burn wound healing, skin tissue engineering and skin regeneration.
