Beijing Forestry University (BFU) is a national key university that emphasizes the balanced and coordinated development of disciplines in agronomy, science, engineering, management, economics, law, philosophy, education, and the arts. BFU is particularly distinguished for its unique strengths in landscape architecture, forestry, ecology and nature conservation, forestry engineering, grassland science, and agro-economic management. Over its 70-year history, BFU has nurtured more than 200,000 domestic and international graduates who have become high-level professionals in forestry and ecology, making significant contributions to China’s ecological progress, thriving forestry sector, and noteworthy socio-economic development.

The School of Landscape Architecture at BFU is recognized as the birthplace of modern landscape architecture education in China, tracing its origins back to 1951. In late 1992, it became the first School of Landscape Architecture established in China. In 2018, the School initiated the first international assessment of landscape architecture discipline in the country. International assessment experts concluded that “Landscape Architecture at Beijing Forestry University has ambitious goals and occupies a strong leadership position in China.” The School has developed an innovative cluster of disciplines centered on the human settlement environment, with a primary focus on landscape architecture. It encompasses three disciplines: landscape architecture, architecture, and urban and rural planning, alongside the interdisciplinary field of ecological environments in urban and rural human settlements.
