Anesthesia and Brain Health
Published 28 June, 2024
With significant advancements in anesthesia technology, current anesthetic drugs offer unprecedented levels of safety and reliability. On one hand, anesthesiology research is introducing novel perspectives in addressing the questions surrounding consciousness transitions, cognition, and emotions in brain science. On the other, the nexus of anesthesia with neuroscience issues such as cognitive impairment, developmental delays, and emotional disturbances is gaining greater prominence. In this context, the importance of prioritizing brain health, optimizing brain protection strategies, and enhancing anesthesia and surgical management from a brain science perspective is crucial for improving the quality of postoperative recovery and long-term outcomes.
The current special issue of Journal of Anesthesia and Translational Medicine aims to present various aspects of anesthesia and brain health, including mechanisms of general anesthesia, anesthesia's effects on the developing and aging brain, perioperative cognition, pain and sleep disorders, and perioperative brain function monitoring and protection.
We invite submissions of research papers, reviews, case studies, and other article types of relevant topics. We hope this special issue will not only expand our horizons in the pathophysiology of anesthesia and brain health, but also provide valuable new strategies for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
