Published 08 April, 2025
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Elmar Schmaltz as an Editorial Board Member of the journal International Soil and Water Conservation Research (ISWCR).

Dr. Schmaltz is from the Federal Agency for Water Management (BAW) in Petzenkirchen, with expertise in soil erosion modeling, watershed management, and sustainable land-use practices. His work integrates advanced computational techniques, field-based research, and policy-driven solutions to address pressing challenges in soil and water conservation, particularly in the context of climate change and anthropogenic pressures.
Dr. Schmaltz has significantly contributed to refining methodologies such as the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) and its adaptations for European agricultural landscapes. Dr. Schmaltz’s work extends to innovative applications of remote sensing and GIS technologies for real-time erosion monitoring and risk assessment. His collaborations with international initiatives, such as the European Union Soil Observatory (EUSO), have advanced the integration of scientific data into regional and EU-level conservation policies. Notably, his contributions to understanding the interplay between climatic variability and soil degradation have informed adaptive strategies for climate-resilient agriculture.
As an Editorial Board Member, Dr. Schmaltz will leverage his interdisciplinary expertise to enhance ISWCR’s mission of fostering cutting-edge research and actionable solutions. His commitment to bridging scientific innovation with practical implementation—evident in projects on irrigation efficiency and soil carbon sequestration—will further solidify the journal’s role in global environmental stewardship.
We warmly welcome Dr. Schmaltz to the ISWCR editorial team and look forward to his contribution in advancing sustainable resource management worldwide.
