Digital intelligent technology enabling management of chronic diseases
Published 19 December, 2024
The rapid advancement of digital intelligent technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), big data analytics, Internet of Things (IoT) and telemedicine, has revolutionized the healthcare sector by offering innovative approaches to managing chronic diseases. Chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hypertension, and mental disorders represent a significant global health burden, accounting for over 70% of deaths worldwide and straining healthcare systems. Effective management of chronic diseases requires continuous monitoring, timely interventions and personalized treatment plans—needs that traditional healthcare models often struggle to fulfill. To that end, digital intelligent technologies enable new paradigms for chronic disease prevention, diagnosis and management by facilitating real-time data collection, improving decision-making and enhancing communication between patients, healthcare providers, and institutions. Nonetheless, the integration of digital intelligent technologies into chronic disease management faces several challenges, including data privacy security concerns, and others. This special topic aims to explore the role of digital intelligent technologies in transforming chronic disease management.
- Development and evaluation of AI and machine learning models for chronic disease prediction and management.
- Applications of big data and analytics in disease monitoring and personalized treatment.
- Innovative use of IoT, wearable devices, and remote monitoring in chronic disease care.
- Telemedicine, mobile health, and their impact on healthcare accessibility and outcomes.
- Digital tools for patient engagement, self-management, and education.
- Ethical considerations, data security, and policy frameworks for digital health integration.
- Case studies and implementation experiences of digital intelligent solutions in chronic disease management.
- Submission deadline: rolling submission
