Published 01 August, 2023
On July 1st and 2nd 2023, the 6th International Conference on Railway Engineering (ICRE) and the Launching Ceremony of High-speed Railway journal were held at the International Conference Center of Beijing Jiaotong University with the attendance of President YU Zujun, Vice President JING Tao, Vice President GAO Liang and host by Vice President ZHAO Peng.
Representing Beijing Jiaotong University, President YU Zujun warmly welcomed the attending guests and representatives. He emphasized the university's academic prowess and significant accomplishments within the railway sector. President YU underscored the university's deep theoretical, technological, talent, and platform resources in the area of high-speed railways. He committed to providing comprehensive support for the seamless operation and premium development of the High-speed Railway (HSPR) journal. He further articulated his aspiration to foster academic dialogues among domestic and international experts and scholars in railway engineering.
On behalf of the Ministry of Education, Mr. GAO Runsheng conveyed his congratulations to the conference attendees. He highlighted Beijing Jiaotong University's rich academic lineage and its robust research foundation, broad academic influence, and ample expert resources in the field of high-speed railways. He noted that the inauguration of HSPR and the organization of the conference will bolster the momentum of railway scientific research within China.
On behalf of China Railway, Mr. ZHOU Li conveyed his congratulations on the conference and the initiation of the journal. He expressed his anticipation that the journal would establish its unique positioning, cultivate its academic brand, draw top-tier talents, and tread a development path that resonates with a global perspective, encapsulates the distinctiveness of the discipline, and aligns with China's national circumstances. He also encouraged scholars and experts to engage in active idea exchange, fostering the harmonious blend of academic research and practical applications. He articulated his conviction that this would advance the high-quality growth of China's railway industry.
Professor CHEN Feng noted that as the railway network in central and western China continues to expand, filling the previously "blank spaces," and as China's global railway initiatives accelerate, the country's railway infrastructure is still confronted with challenges presented by complex and extreme operating conditions such as climate and geology. He suggested that experts share their leading-edge accomplishments in intelligent design, construction, and operation of railway engineering within complex environments. This would effectively provide technical support and ensure the high-quality advancement of the railway industry.
Professor LU Chunfang, an Academician of the Academy of Engineering and Editor-in-Chief of the journal, expressed a commitment to prominently feature new theories, technologies, equipment, processes, and materials in the field of high-speed railways. The journal's goal is to establish a high-level platform for the publication and open global sharing of pioneering research achievements in China's high-speed railway field. Professor LU conveyed his hope that, through concerted efforts, the journal would evolve into a top-tier publication with global influence, thus elevating the international impact of China's high-speed railway industry.
During the appointment ceremony for the editorial committee and the youth editorial committee, Mr. GAO Runsheng, Mr. ZHOU Li, President YU Zujun, Vice President JING Tao, and Vice President GAO Liang respectively presented appointment letters to the deputy editor, the deputy director of the editorial department, representatives of the editorial committee, and representatives of the youth editorial committee who were participating in the inaugural meeting.
Under the observance of 33 editorial board members from both domestic and international spheres, as well as over 200 experts and scholars in the field of railway engineering, Mr. GAO Runsheng, Mr. ZHOU Li, President YU Zujun, Vice President CHEN Feng, Vice President JING Tao, and Vice President GAO Liang collectively initiated the launch of the journal.
Editorial board members and young editorial board members, including Prof. CHEN Xiangsheng, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Prof. Anjan Bose, a foreign Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and an Academician of the National Academy of Engineering in the United States, and Professor Uday Kumar, an Academician of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, extended their congratulations on the journal's launch via video messages. Following the opening ceremony, keynote speeches were delivered by experts, and parallel sessions were conducted.
The conference witnessed the active participation of experts from over 30 prestigious domestic and international universities, esteemed research institutions, and key enterprises within the railway industry. In total, the number of participants surpassed 500, with attendees joining both online and offline. The live broadcast of the conference garnered an impressive 140,000 views, effectively amplifying the international influence of our university within the professional realm.
