Special issue on Nano-synthetic Biology for Disease Diagnosis and Treatment
Published 13 December, 2023
Classic synthetic biology has broad applications, ranging from brand-new biosensor designs to recent clinical therapeutic agents. This field harnesses genetic tools to engineer living cells and organisms to perform user-defined functions. The considerable advancement of nanotechnology is now revolutionizing synthetic biology applications, improving the production efficiency of target products and the functions of modified organisms.
Notably, the marriage of synthetic biology and nanotechnology has given rise to the interdisciplinary field of “nano-synthetic biology, which enables the creation of engineered hybrid living materials for disease diagnosis and treatment.
To propel nano-synthetic biology to the forefront of biomedical discoveries in the next generation, there is a pressing need for more efforts in modularization, standardization, bioinspiration, multi-functionalization, and intelligentization.
This special issue invites critical reviews, perspectives, and research articles that contribute to the interdisciplinary studies of disease diagnosis and treatment in the context of nano-synthetic biology. The areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following topics:
- Novel nanomaterial creation is driven by synthetic biology;
- New paradigms of synthetic biology advances facilitated by nanotechnology;
- Cross-integration of nano-synthetic biology for clinical translation.
