Special issue on "Deciphering the Glycocode"
Published 13 December, 2023
Akin to nucleic acids and proteins, glycans are an indispensable class of biological macromolecules in organisms. They are closely related to various biological processes, including embryonic development, immune recognition, inflammatory responses, signal transduction, and diseases such as cancer, chronic illnesses, and pathogen infections.
In recent times, we have witnessed the emergence of glycomics and glycobiology. Decoding the information carried by glycans, referred to deciphering the “glycocode”, involves addressing a series of challenging scientific questions. This scholarly pursuit is not only crucial for explaining the fundamental guidelines that govern the evolution, development, and mechanisms of complex life systems, but also opening new avenues for interdisciplinary scientific research.
This special issue invites critical reviews, perspectives, and research articles that contribute to the study of glycocode in living organisms from a multidisciplinary perspective. While we encourage submissions on various aspects, we are particularly interested in the following topics:
- Crafting the glycocode book—Novel techniques for analyzing and editing glycan structures
- Decoding the biological glycocode—Functions and regulatory mechanisms of glycans in key processes of living organisms
- Construction of the glycocode database—Multi-omics for deciphering glycan information and constructing standardized database
- Translational application of the glycocode—Glycan-based drug development and clinical diagnosis and treatment strategies
Deadline for manuscript submissions
Submission deadline: March 31st, 2024
Submission instructions
Please read the Guide for Authors before submitting. All articles should be submitted online. Please select Special Topic: Deciphering the Glycocode as the article section/category on submission. All submissions will be subject to peer review.
