Dr. Chris Zou is a full professor in forest hydrology and ecohydrology at Oklahoma State University, USA. His research centers on the interactions among climate, soil, vegetation, and streamflow, with a specific emphasis on the ecological and hydrological impacts of woody plant encroachment, afforestation, and forest mortality in the grassland and forest transition zone of North America. His research approaches are primarily field-based using the long-term experimental watershed approach complemented by process-based ecohydrological modeling. His current research focuses on land use and vegetation impact on soil hydrological function, soil carbon dynamics, below-ground productivity, ecosystem water use efficiency, and the trade-off between carbon sequestration and water use.
Areas of expertise: Drought and tree mortality; Water budget and sedimentation processes in rangeland and forest watersheds; Climate change and land use change on soil health, terrestrial carbon sequestration, and water resources resilience
