Renewable Energy & Building

Published 14 May, 2024

As the global population continues to surge, so does the demand for energy. Histroically, the energy demand has been  mainly met through the burning of fossil fuels, such as oil, gas and coal. However, it has been proven that the burning of fossil fuels negatively impacts the climate, environment and human health. Hence, there is a pressing need for scholars to propose viable alternatives to conventional energy sources. In response, renewable energy sources have been increasingly developed and deployed, with countries leveraging them according to their unique geographical condition. Accordingly, it attracted many attentions from both governments and researchers.

This special issue serves as a platform to showcase the diverse utilization of renewable energies building infrastructure, offering insights from different engineering perspectives.

Topics covered:

  • Zero-energy building (ZEB) integrated with renewable energy
  • Building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV)
  • Applications of solar energy e.g. solar desalination, solar drier, solar water heater, etc. in building
  • Daylighting
  • Energy management & policy about the application of renewable energy in building
  • Utilization of co-generation system in building
  • Using phase change material (PCM) in building’s walls
  • Computer methods to predict or optimize the nexus of renewable energy & building; e.g. internet of things (IoT), internet of energy (IoE), optimization algorithms, artificial intelligence (AI), etc.
