Virtual Special Issue: Advanced Energetic Materials (AEMs) and Applications
Published 21 April, 2025
Notable progress have been made in the exploration of theoretical design, ignition, combustion, detonation, and application of advanced energetic materials (AEMs). This includes metals fuels, energetic fillers, composite energetic materials, combustion catalysts, thermites and novel energetic materials.
In various chemical propulsion systems, the preparation, combustion and industry application of AEMs with nano-scale or micro-scale particle size and their composites have been widely studied. The introduction of new technologies such as measurement techniques, calculation methods, physical-informed machine learning and data-driven modeling have also promoted the understanding of the mechanisms of ignition, combustion and detonation reactions. Nonetheless, the development and application of AEMs still face major limitations, including safety, stability, cost, environmental pollution and other considerations.
This Virtual Special Issue will serve as a platform for sharing the latest insights, theories, approaches and applications in the field, with a focus on AEMs in chemical propellants, explosives and pyrotechnics.
