Special issue on the global synthetic biology landscape

Since it first emerged as a field of science, synthetic biology has inspired strong community engagement and an ethos of inclusivity. As developments enable more industries to leverage biodesigning and bioengineering, the international and local synthetic biology communities inform stakeholders, promote technology developments, and shape synthetic biology to serve the unique needs and situations of the areas where they are active. For this special issue, we welcome articles and perspectives that highlight the efforts being made to introduce and build communities around synthetic biology, as well as initiative that make synthetic biology more inclusive, equal, and accessible.
Topics covered:
These will include, but not be limited to:
- National and international synthetic biology associations
- Outreach, equity and advocacy initiatives and efforts
- Synthetic biology applications for local and regional challenges
- Actions and perspectives on increased representation and equality
- The legal and regulatory framework of synthetic biology
Important deadlines:
- Submission deadline (for full papers): 25 May 2022
- Publication date: upon acceptance

Please read the Guide for Authors before submitting. All articles should be submitted online; please select the special issue “The global synthetic biology landscape”.
Manuscripts will be reviewed and published on a first-come, first-served basis. Once all accepted manuscripts are published, they will be gathered together in this special issue.
