Bioactive Materials (BAM) is forming an early career editorial board (ECEB) to provide a pathway for early career individuals to gain experience in editorial functions.
Eligibility Criteria
- You should have earned your Ph.D. within the last 10 years and currently hold an early career academic position such as postdoctoral fellow, instructor, assistant professor or equivalent research position in industry/government research institutes.
- You must be active on Twitter and other social media (e.g. Instagram, Facebook)
- You should be familiar with the peer review process and should have experience of writing critical reviews.
Responsibilities
Early career editorial board members will be asked to contribute to the journal in the following ways:
- Serving as an ambassador of the journal and promoting the journal via social media, conferences and other channels.
- Conducting reviews for at least ten submissions to the journal annually.
- Providing consultation on manuscripts with the journal editors at their request.
- Assisting with special issues under the guidance and discretion of the journal editors.
- Proposing and preparing review and prospective articles for publication in BAM.
- Additional editorial tasks or special projects as requested by the editors.
Term
The term for ECEB members is two years, with possible renewal for a second term if eligibility criteria continues to be met. Exceptional ECEB members will be elevated to a BAM editorial board member status.

Candidates should submit a resume that includes name, affiliation, a detailed summary of qualifications and research area expertise* via email to BAM Editors-in-Chief (yfzheng@pku.edu.cn and jxy30@psu.edu). Please also complete the following table:
*Categories of expertise for use in human or veterinary medicine as implants, tissue engineering scaffolds, cell/drug/gene carriers, imaging and sensing devices:
- Bioactive metals and alloys
- Bioactive inorganics: ceramics, glasses and carbon-based materials
- Bioactive polymers and gels
- Bioactive materials sourced from nature
- Bioactive composites
Application Deadlines
Application may be submitted annually between 1 July and 31 December. All applications will be reviewed by BAM editors and the applicants will be informed about a decision within four weeks of the deadline. The selected ECEB members’ names will be posted on the webpage of the BAM editorial board.
