Bioactive Materials Lifetime Achievement Award, an award from the journal Bioactive Materials (IF 2020: 14.593. http://www.keaipublishing.com/en/journals/bioactive-materials/). The annual Bioactive Materials Lifetime Achievement Award was established in 2021 to recognize excellence in research and development in the field. It is presented to the person judged to have demonstrated excellence and leadership in bioactive materials, including basic science and translation to practice. Each year the general bioactive materials community is invited to nominate suitable award candidates who should be world leaders in the field of bioactive materials, whose accomplishments in discovery and translation to practice are unsurpassed. All candidates are placed on a ballot, which is then considered by the selection committee. The candidate with the most points was chosen as the Lifetime Achievement Award winner. In 2021, the winner is Prof. Changsheng Liu.

Dr. Changsheng Liu
Dr. Changsheng Liu is a Cheung Kong Scholar Professor of biomaterials, and President of Shanghai University. He also serves as the director of Engineering Research Center for Biomedical Materials of Ministry of Education, East China University of Science and Technology. Prof. Liu received a Ph.D. Degree in Chemical Engineering from East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) in 1996. He is the chairman-elect of Chinese Society for Biomaterials. He is the Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), International Fellow of Biomaterials Science and Engineering (IFBSE), Fellow of American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).
His research interest includes bone regenerative biomaterials and nano-scaled biomedical materials. He has more than 300 refereed journal publications, 70 patents and invention disclosures, and 10 edited books/chapters. More importantly, with the leadership of Dr. Liu over the past 25 years, his team has established a track record of accomplishments, including three registered trademarks, a series of calcium phosphate cement (CPC)-based bone regeneration products, and 1 bio-engineered growth factor product. Up to now, various CPC-based products have been used in more than 500 hospitals nationwide, winning high acclaim for its excellent clinical performance. Recently, Prof. Liu has established the pioneering field of Materiobiology, which studies the biological effects of the properties of biomaterials on biological functions at cell, tissue, organ, and the whole organism levels. It focuses on the role of material biological characteristics to provide combinative bioactive cues, mediate life activities and regulate microenvironments, enabling us to create a database of biomaterial genome and build a theoretical framework for developing new materials.
Given the great social and economic benefits it has brought, Prof. Liu has earned lots of honors and awards, including second-prize winner of National Natural Science Award (China), second-prize winner of National Award for Science and Technology Progress (China), Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation-Prize for Scientific and Technological Innovation Award, and silver prize for Innovation and Excellence of INPEX in Medicines (US). He also offered the editorial responsibilities for the many journals, including Associate Editor of Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine, Editorial member of Scientific Report, Biomaterials Research, Journal of Orthopaedic Translation etc.
