Published 07 November, 2024
Introduction:
This special issue covers cutting-edge research in bioactive biomaterials with a focus on cell instruction, bioimaging, drug delivery, regenerative medicine, and smart healthcare devices. It aims to highlight the remaining challenges and future research directions in this field. Published in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the German Society for Biomaterials, held on October 10-12, 2024, in Berlin, Germany, this issue celebrates Germany’s prominent role in biomaterials research, fueled by one of the largest national research budgets in the field.
Topics covered:
- Bio-inspired biomaterials
- Biomaterials for tissue regeneration
- Cell-material interactions
- Bioactive materials and release systems
- Bio functional materials
- Patterned and hierarchically structured materials
- Surface modification technologies, including coatings and treatments for implant-associated infections
- Biomaterial translation, the 3Rs (Replace, Reduce, Refine), and clinical applications
- Free Topics (e.g., bioimaging, and other relevant areas)
