Special Issue on New Frontiers in Diagnosis & Prognosis: Basic & Clinical Research
Published 13 July, 2024
The human body whispers secrets of health and disease through its fluids. This special issue explores the exciting new frontiers in disease diagnosis and prognosis by harnessing the power of body fluids, such as urine, serum, and saliva. Researchers are delving deeper than ever before, analyzing a vast array of molecules including proteins, glycoproteins, glycoRNAs, RNAs, metabolites, and free glycans, to identify disease-specific signatures. This issue showcases basic research that unravels the complex relationships between these molecules and disease processes. It also exploresclinical applications, focusing on how these findings translate to more accurate diagnoses, personalized treatment plans, and improved disease monitoring. Additionally, meta-analysis is employed to synthesize clinical data, laying a robust foundation for the development of novel biomarkers and diagnostic tools. This special issue offers a glimpse into the future of personalized medicine, where a simple body fluid analysis can unveil a wealth of information about an indicidual’s
Topics covered:
- Unraveling Disease Through Body Fluids: Analyze biofluids (urine, blood, saliva, etc.) using multi-omics approaches (proteins, RNA, DNA, metabolites) to gain a deeper understanding of disease mechanisms.
- Glycosylation & Disease:Explore the role of sugars in disease development through glycoproteomics, glyco-transcriptomics, and glycobiology.
- Biomarkers- Finding Fingerprints of Disease: Identify disease-specific biomarkers for tumors, neurodegenerative diseases, asthma, allergies, and more.
- Bridging the Gap: From Research to Reality: Leverage meta-analysis to translate research findings into clinical applications and validate them through case studies.
This special issue invites submissions across the entire spectrum of disease biomarker research, including in vitro and in vivo studies, pre-clinical investigations, and studies on clinical translation and application. We encourage scientists and clinicians to submit manuscripts, with a strong preference for multidisciplinary contributions that bridge the gap between basic research and real-world applications. We welcome various manuscript types, including original research articles, reviews, case studies, and clinical reports.
