Watershed Ecology and the Environment (WEE) is a multidisciplinary journal publishing original research papers, reviews, and short communications, which improve our knowledge of shifts and adaptations of resources, biodiversity, ecological functions, hydrological and environmental changes under various human disturbance pressures (such as urbanization) and changing climate patterns at a watershed scale or in watersheds. Given that the watershed is a basic geographical unit on Earth, multidisciplinary and integrative understanding at a watershed scale provide a platform for evaluating environmental response to land use and climate change. Knowledge from watershed studies may also provide solutions for environmental change or degradation caused by human disturbances. Therefore, studies and policies for watershed-based management are strongly welcomed.
The journal publishes high-impact contributions on but not limited to:
hydrological, ecological and environmental responses to human disturbances in watersheds, i.e. urban development, land use/land cover changes, domestic animal cultivation, agricultural practices, aquacultural activities, mining and industrial activities, and environmental accidents, etc.;
biogeochemical cycles (fate, transport, and stoichiometric budget) and processes (functions) of water, nutrients, and contaminants in watersheds, including toxic metals and organic compounds, and contaminants apportionment;
watershed-based ecological and health risk assessment for environmental pollution and mitigation strategies;
watershed-based management and policies for resources, biodiversity, water, nutrients, and contaminants;
long-term monitoring ecological and environmental studies of worldwide importance;
