Peer review

This journal operates a single-blind review process. All contributions will be initially assessed by the editor for suitability for the journal. Papers deemed suitable are then typically sent to a minimum of two independent expert reviewers to assess the scientific quality of the paper. The Editor is responsible for the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection of articles. The Editor's decision is final. More information on types of peer review. The referees' comments usually will be returned to the principal/corresponding author(s) in forty days. The peer review process is as follow:

  • All manuscripts would be first reviewed by editorial office. Any papers fail to meet the basic standard of the journal would be desk rejected for reasons like out of scope, ethic issues, high similarities, etc. Then, editorial office would reassign selected papers to editor-in-chief.

  • Editor-in-chief would invite multiple reviewers to review this paper.

  • After at least 2 reviewers give their reviews and comments, editor-in-chief would provide feedbacks based on review comments to the authors including his own review.

  • When author submits the revised manuscript, editor-in-chief or associate editors-in-chief would make final decision.

  • For submissions to Special Issues, if there are conflicts of interest between the GE(s) and authors, the submissions will be handled by another Editor from Editorial Board who will manage the peer review process and make the decision whether to accept or reject the paper after peer review.

  • For submissions from Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editors, Guest Editor(s), and other journal Board members, and authors who have conflicts of interest with them, we ensure that the paper is handled confidentially by a different team member.

Manuscript format

Contributions are required of a concise, focused account of the findings and reliable essential data. They should be well organized and clearly presented, avoiding exhaustive tables and figures. Authors are advised to use internationally agreed nomenclature, express all measurements in SI units, and quote all the relevant references.

Text: A article should begin with a brief introduction to the problem and the significance of the research. Nomenclature, symbols, and abbreviations should be defined at their initial appearance. All the figures and tables should be numbered in numerical order.

Introduction: Being the most important part of an article, the introduction should provide relevant information on research background and recent progress, with references cited in numerical order, present the problem to be solved in the article, and describe briefly the method adopted to solve the problem. The aim of the research should also be mentioned. Subtitle is forbidden in this part and introduction of the article structure is considered unnecessary.

Equations: Equations should be numerically numbered, with Arabic numbers put on the right-hand side.

Please click here to download the manuscript template.

Materials and method

This part should describe clearly the materials used, the method adopted or developed, the experimental procedure followed, and the results obtained by the authors in their work, so as to allow others to repeat the experiments and to make use of the work published.

Discussion and conclusion

Conclusion should be derived from the observations and experimental results, and comparison with other relevant results is considered helpful to further proving the results. Repeated data should be avoided, and conclusions and suggestions are required to be clearly expressed. New hypotheses and recommendations may be proposed when warranted.

Title

Titles must be limited to 20 words, and should be concise, indexable, and informative for a broad VRIH. Authors should avoid using colons, questions, nonstandard abbreviations, etc., in titles.

Abstract

The abstract is a summary of the content of the manuscript. It should briefly describe the research purpose, methods developed or used, main results, and conclusion. Extremely technical terms, special symbols, figures, tables, chemical structural formula, and equations should be avoided there and citation of references is not allowed.

Keywords

A list of five to eight keywords should follow the abstract. The chosen keywords are required to reflect the theme of the manuscript.

Acknowledgements

Financial support appears here, with grant number(s) following. Full titles of the funding agencies or programs (for example, National Natural Science Foundation of China, National High-Tech Research & Development Program of China, and National Basic Research Program of China) should be given. The authors may express their thanks to the people who helped for the work, and acknowledge valuable suggestions from the reviewers.

Figures and tables

Figures and tables should be numerically numbered, inserted in the text, and cited in order within the text. The figures should have resolution not lower than 600 dpi and clear lines of 5 px, with symbols and letters in Times New Roman at 8 pt. A space should always be maintained between the variable and the unit.

Reference format

  1. For an author's name, full spelling of family name appears before abbreviation of given name, with a spacing in the middle.

  2. If there are more than 3 authors, the first 3 names are followed by et al.

  3. The article title should be identified by an initial capital letter with the remainder of the title in lower case.

  4. For books and proceedings, the initial letter is capitalized for all the notional words and for function words with more than 4 letters.

  5. Do not forget to list the editor names of the proceedings, the publisher, the publishing address, and the beginning and terminating pages.

  6. Accepted but unpublished articles should be followed by "in press".

  7. Websites or homepages cannot be cited as references.

References

Reference citation is regarded as an important indicator of the article quality. If relevant references,in particular results published within 3 years, are not cited in the article, or most citations are for the authors?own publications, the editor may consider the article unattractive. References should be numerically numbered and cited in order within the text, with the numbers given in square brackets. The authors should carefully check the author names, article title, journal title, year, volume, and issue number of each reference, and create the listing according to the format of VRIH.

Declaration of generative AI in scientific writing

Authors can declare the use of generative AI in scientific writing upon submission of the paper. The following guidance refers only to the writing process, and not to the use of AI tools to analyse and draw insights from data as part of the research process:

Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies should only be used in the writing process to improve the readability and language of the manuscript.

The technology must be applied with human oversight and control and authors should carefully review and edit the result, as AI can generate authoritative-sounding output that can be incorrect, incomplete or biased. Authors are ultimately responsible and accountable for the contents of the work.

Authors must not list or cite AI and AI-assisted technologies as an author or co-author on the manuscript since authorship implies responsibilities and tasks that can only be attributed to and performed by humans.

The use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in scientific writing can be declared by adding a statement at the end of the manuscript when the paper is first submitted. The statement will appear in the published work and should be placed in a new section before the references list. An example:

Title of new section: Declaration of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process.

Statement: During the preparation of this work the author(s) used [NAME TOOL / SERVICE] in order to [REASON]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the published article.

The declaration does not apply to the use of basic tools, such as tools used to check grammar, spelling and references. If you have nothing to disclose, you do not need to add a statement.

We advise you to read our policy for authors on the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies for Elsevier.

Please note: to protect authors’ rights and the confidentiality of their research, this journal does not currently allow the use of Generative AI or AI-assisted technologies such as ChatGPT or similar services by reviewers or editors in the peer review and manuscript evaluation process. We are actively evaluating compliant AI tools and may revise this policy in the future.

After acceptance

After Acceptance

For articles with great breakthrough results, quick publication will be arranged. After typesetting, page proofs are usually sent electronically as e-mail attachments to the corresponding authors. The proofs plus minor corrections must be returned to the managing editor within 3 days. Failure to do this will result in delays in publication. Corrections can be noticed in different ways: (1) highlight the corrections and send back the printed proof pages; (2) fax the corrections to the managing editor; (3) highlight the corrections and send back the corrected page proofs as e-mail attachments.

After Acceptance

Authors will be presented one sample copy of the issue in which their article is published. If offprints and more sample copies are required, the authors should contact the managing editor and pay the extra fee.

Post-publication amendments

Errata and Corrigenda

We will publish a correction of your article if a significant error is discovered after publication. An Erratum will be published if we introduced the error; a Corrigendum if the author introduced the error.

Retractions

Articles may be withdrawn, retracted, removed or replaced after publication if they contain substantial errors that cannot be corrected by publishing an Erratum or a Corrigendum, or if ethical violations come to light after publication.
