Special Issue on Pathway and Protein Engineering for Biosynthesis
Published 17 March, 2021
Synthetic biology is an emerging field of research, which involves the application of engineering methods to biology. The goal is to create new biological components and systems, or to redesign existing organisms with novel abilities. Protein engineering can create or improve the key component for enhancing biosynthesis efficiency, while pathway engineering has the potential to balance the overall metabolic flux toward the biosynthesis of products of interest. In this special issue of Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology, we will explore the interface of protein engineering and metabolic engineering for improved biosynthetic efficiency.
Topics Covered:
These will include, but not be limited to:
- Enzyme engineering for creating novel reactions
- Enzyme engineering for improved catalysis efficiency
- Engineering of mega-enzymes
- Protein engineering for rewiring the regulation network
- Cell-free metabolic engineering
- Pathway engineering for balancing the metabolic network
- Metabolic engineering to improve cell robustness
- Tools and technologies in enzyme and pathway engineering
Important Deadlines:
- Submission deadline (for full papers): 30 October 2021
- Publication date: upon acceptance
Submission Instructions:
Please read the Guide for Authors before submitting. All articles should be submitted online; please select the special issue “Pathway and Protein Engineering for Biosynthesis”.
Manuscripts will be reviewed and published on a first-come, first-served basis. Once all accepted manuscripts are published, they will be gathered together in this special issue.
