Special Issue on Semiconductor Materials for Sensing Applications (SMSA)

Published 10 February, 2020

There are variety of sensors proposed for the detection of different analytes and applications for medical diagnosis, safety and security. The existing requirement is to develop a sensor with small dimensions but can perform wide range of operations with fast response time. Moreover, a sensor should be economical, portable with high sensitivity and selectivity. Almost every material including inorganic, organic, polymers, hybrid, etc. have been tested for the development of sensors. However, semiconductor-based sensors are one such class of materials that are considerably preferred to perform interdisciplinary investigations for sensing applications in every field of science and technology. This area of research can transform the technology in a better way. Inspite of Si, Ge and GaAs, there are other potential semiconductor materials like, GaN, InGaN, ZnO, TiO2, SnO2, grapheme, carbon nanotubes, etc. that are used for sensing applications. All these materials have been synthesized into 0D, 1D and 2D nanoforms. Resistive sensors, FET based sensors, SAW based sensors and electrochemical sensors are some design techniques that had been reported by several researchers. Such minuscule sensors are compact in size with small response times and possess ultra-high sensitivity.

The present virtual special issue (VSI) will invite research articles, reviews and mini reviews based on semiconductor materials for novel and advanced sensor technologies for different applications. This special issue aims to promote high quality original contributions falling into the following categories and these will be considered for publication after rigorous reviewing process. Submissions of original research papers, review articles, short communications, and editorials are welcome. Contributions of all types of articles are free of charge and are not levied on authors.

Please note: All articles submitted there is no publication charge.
