Dr. Xian-Kui Zhu is a Principal Engineer at Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) and holds a PhD degree of Solid Mechanics from Tsinghua University in China. Prior to joining SRNL, Dr. Zhu was a Senior Research Scient at Battelle and a Principal Engineer at EWI for many years. His research focuses on the flow theory of plasticity, fracture constraint theory, material strength and characterization, fracture toughness testing and evaluation, crack and corrosion assessment, fatigue life modeling, structural integrity assessment, and finite element analysis and simulation for large-scale energy infrastructure, including pressure vessels and oil/gas pipelines. Dr. Zhu is an internationally recognized expert of elastic-plastic fracture constraint theory and pipeline integrity assessment. He has made various significant contributions to his research fields, authored many technical reports, delivered numerous conference presentations, and published more than 300 technical papers. Dr. Zhu has won many professional and technical awards, such as the 2023 Exceptional Contribution Award at SRNL and the 2021 Best Paper Award from the Journal of Pipeline Engineering and Science. Dr. Zhu is an ASME fellow and a professional leader at ASME PVPD.
