Richard Condit has studied dynamics and diversity of forests across the world. His research covers ecological theory, demography, environmental variation, statistics of forest measurements, and his book on methods for measuring forest plots has formed the basis of tropical inventories on all continents. Besides trees, his studies of population biology include many other organisms, including seals, whales, and birds. He is retired from the Smithsonian Institution, but remains active in research and still mentors young forestry professionals.
