One of the key goals of Energetic Materials Frontiers journal is to disseminate original basic and applied research results in the field of energetic materials and fuels. It seeks to bridge gaps between theoretical and experimental basic science, and interdisciplinary, applied, goals-oriented research and development. It also aims to provide a comprehensive open access publishing platform to researchers and scholars from various fields of science and technology related to energetic materials and fuels. Our goal is to trigger effective "cross pollination" of ideas and methodologies and provide researchers at various stages of their academic careers with the opportunity to be part of the broader scholarly community.

The journal scope ranges from theoretical studies to experimental investigations related to all aspects of energetic materials and fuels, including:

  • Molecular and crystal designs and simulations;

  • Synthesis, synthetic methods, and characterization;

  • Formulation and composition;

  • Sensitivity, thermal behavior;

  • Ignition, combustion and detonation studies;

  • Demilitarization, and soil and water decontamination studies (green chemistry).

The Institute of Chemical Materials (ICM) (https://icm.caep.cn/) began in 1958 with energetic materials (EMs) research. Over the years it has evolved, adding a broad range of research and manufacture technologies to meet China's civilisation needs. Today, the ICM is a comprehensive institute focused on EMs research and development. One of our important visions is to improve EMs innovation.

To achieve this, we have contributed to more than 20 disciplines, including novel EMs design and preparation, initiating explosive system and ignition technology, polymer materials, safety assessment, EMs production, etc. We have also built up scientific and technological innovation research centres: the National New Energy Materials Center and the New Materials Center. We are trusted by the EMs community, and we work with many partners to deliver value and success for EMs improvement.

ICM has a large number of excellent scientific and technological talents and teams, and enjoys a well-developed education system, offering postgraduate and undergraduate education. It has become one of the most famous EMs institutes, and has received more than 400 honours, including the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, the National Invention Award and the National Science Conference award. It has also established nearly 30 national standards and more than 100 industrial standards.
