Design Science Vision (DSV) is an interdisciplinary research journal that publishes high-quality papers focused on the built environment and its design interventions. The journal welcomes cross-disciplinary research bridges the gap between built environment design and fields such as data science, decision science, computational science and cognitive science. Priority is given to studies offering innovative solutions and fundamental insights into urbanization and the future of human living spaces.

DSV provides both readers and authors with high visibility, emphasising interdisciplinary communication and ensuring accessibility to a broad readership. The journal maintains high standards in copy editing and production, rigorous peer review and rapid publication, as well as operates independently of academic societies and other vested interests.

In addition to primary research, DSV publishes reviews, perspectives, communications and editorials. Through this approach, the journal aims to boost interdisciplinary research collaborations between scholars in architecture and related fields, serving as an international academic communication platform.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to, the following themes:

  1. Decision science research providing fundamental insights and advanced technological solutions for high-quality buildings, sites, and urban spaces, including sustainable place-making, programming, as well as carbon-net-zero neighborhoods.

  2. Computational science research providing advanced algorithms to engage in design intervention and its iterations, especially focusing on the use of artificial intelligence in the built environment related studies and practice.

  3. Cognitive science research providing fundamental insights and advanced technologies in human behaviours and cognition in built environment, including life spaces from urban to rural, from polar to extraterrestrial, from real to virtual.

  4. Data science research providing possible explanation to the mechanism of regional/urban systems and urban dynamics, including governance, policymaking, and coordinated regional development related to the built environment.

Tsinghua University is a famous higher education institution in China and an important base for high-level talent cultivation and scientific and technological research. The predecessor of Tsinghua University was Tsinghua Academy, established in 1911. As of 2017, Tsinghua University has 21 colleges and 59 departments, as a comprehensive, research-oriented, and open university with disciplines such as science, engineering, literature, art, history, philosophy, economics, management, law, education, and medicine.

The School of Architecture, Tsinghua University (SATU), formerly known as the Department of Architecture, founded by the famous architect Prof. Liang Sicheng in October 1946, is one of the earliest architectural schools in China. At present, SATU has four departments, Architecture, Urban Planning, Landscape and Building Science and Technology.

Over the past years of development, SATU has been maintaining distinct characteristics and advantages in talent cultivation, scientific research, theoretical innovation, creative practice and international communication, with its interdisciplinary integration, comprehensive spatial intervention disciplinary framework, clear educational philosophy, comprehensive teaching system, strong faculty led by academicians, excellent potential students, extensive international cooperation, and excellent academic reputation.

As a key discipline for Tsinghua University to implement the National "Project 211" and "Project 985", the first level discipline of architecture of the School of Architecture has ranked first in all previous national discipline evaluations. In the 2017 "First Class University and First Class Discipline" development project by the Ministry of Education, the Architecture, Urban Rural Planning, and Landscape Architecture in Tsinghua University were all included in the list of first-class discipline development. SATU has also established a national key secondary discipline - Building Environment and Energy Engineering Applications has achieved close cooperation among architecture, planning, landscape, and technology, making it the first among domestic architectural Schools. In the 2022 QS World University Discipline Ranking, SATU ranked ninth globally and was praised by international peers as "High Standing in the World".

SATU is committed to cultivating high-quality architectural talents and will continue to provide a platform for the growth and development of talents from all parts of world.
