Dr. Bjørn Kvamme
Professor Bjørn Kvamme, now retired from the Department of Physics and Technology, University of Bergen, Norway, obtained his MSc in Chemical Engineering (1981) and PhD in Chemical Engineering (1984) from the Norwegian University of Technology and Natural Sciences. After a short period with SINTEF, and two years at Bergen University College, he was appointed to full Professor in 1987 and took on a role as Professor in Gas Processing at the Department of Physics, University of Bergen, in March 2000. He is the author/co-author of 543 publications over the past 25 years, of which 277 are in international scientific journals. As of 1 April 2022, he had 4,807 citations (based on the last 15 years). In addition, he has given numerous international presentations. Much of his research since 2002 has been on CO2 storage and utilisation; CO2 emulsions for enhanced oil recovery; Zeolite systems and other confined structures for capture of CO2 and water; reservoir modelling of CO2 storage, including various aspects of hydrate related to CO2; hydrate production modelling; hydrate risk analysis, including impact of solid surfaces; and adsorption modelling. Kvamme’s group is part of a Centre of Excellence in environmentally friendly energy (FME-SUCCESS). His research group at UoB was established in 2000 and by February 2017 had an additional professor, one postdoc, one researcher, seven PhD students and eight MSc students (average). The number of international guest researchers and students varies. Kvamme is a partner of Strategic Carbon and Hyzen Energy, both US companies. Kvamme retired from the University of Bergen at the end of July 2019 and is now Professor Emeritus.
